Team Viewer is a proprietary software for remote control. It can be used for desktop sharing, online conferences and even to transfer files between computers. The application is available for Windows, Mac OS, Linux, iOS, Android and even Windows Phone. While it is possible to access a computer that runs Team Viewer from the browser, its main function is to control computers remotely.
So, what is it exactly? Team Viewer enables you to provide technical support remotely. Basically, with this software, you can get a friend or a professional to help you solve some of the problems with your computer remotely (only software), without having them to physically travel to you.
How to install it:
To install Team Viewer (the full version) you must download the software from the official website. After you’ve downloaded it, double click on TeamViewer_Setup.exe and in the window that appears, check Basic installation and Personal / Non-commercial use, after that, click Accept – finish. You can also run Team Viewer without installing it in the system. For this, instead of cheking the Basic installation you should check Run only (one time use). How to use it:
To allow access to your PC, all you need to do is to open Team Viewer and to communicate Your ID and the Password displayed in the program window to the person who will provide technical support to you, just as you see in the image below.
If you worry about security, you should know that without these two pieces of information and without the program being open, no one can connect to your PC. Also, the password will be regenerated every time you start the application or when you click the refresh icon next to the password. So, no need to worry that someone may use your password without your permission, it’s unique for each session.
If instead you want to access a friend’s or a client’s computer, he must start the program and then communicate you the ID and the password. Once you have this information, enter the ID in the Partner ID field, on the right side and click on Connect to partner. Soon you will be prompted to enter the password communicated by your friend/client. After you’ve done all these steps, you will have access to your client’s PC.
Team Viewer is an excellent piece of software to receive and to provide remote support. It’s a tool that every user should know about. Moreover, the software is free for those who use it for non-commercial purposes.
